Society for the Study of Theology

Bursary fund—CLOSED

The Society is committed to making the conference as accessible as possible, and we have a generous bursary fund that can provide help with the conference fee, and with accommodation and meal costs. Contributions to the fund may be made when booking or at any other time. For futher information about making a donation, please e-mail us.

Bursary applications are welcomed from prospective participants who would otherwise fund their attendance themselves. Applicants are expected to have sought support from other sources first, wherever possible. In particular, postgraduates should have made an approach to any grant-making body and their department; ministers to their training fund; academic staff to their department. In the likely event of applications exceeding the value of bursaries available, weight will be given to the contribution of the applicant to the conference and/or the life of the Society, the proximity of the conference topic to previous or current research, and financial means.

The deadline for receipt of applications is 26 JANUARY 2012. To apply, please e-mail the Secretary, Tom Greggs (t.greggs@abdn.ac.uk) with the following information:

1. Name

2. Occupation and/or institution

3. Current research and/or research relevant to the conference theme.

4. The sum requested.

5. Details of any other funding sources to which you have applied and the outcome (if known).

6. Whether you offering a short paper or seminar paper, and if a seminar paper, which seminar.

7. Whether you consider yourself to be engaged in church ministry, either lay or ordained, or preparing for such ministry, and if yes, one sentence of description.

We are requesting details of any ministry you might be engaged in so that a specific donation may be expended in accordance with its terms. Applicants who indicate such a ministry will not be advantaged over those who do not.

The Secretary or Treasurer will notify you by e-mail (to the address from which you applied) of the outcome of your bursary application by 2 February. This is in order to give you time to book and pay before the early booking rate deadline if your attendance at the conference depends on a bursary being available. If you are applying for a bursary, please do not make your booking until you know the outcome of your application. This is because bursaries will be e-mailed as a credit note, which holders will be able to use when making their online booking.
